Your Life Path is the most important number in numerology. It comes from your date of birth and outlines the opportunities, challenges and lessons of your life. Enter your birthday to reveal yours, with every step of the math shown.
The basics
Your Life Path number is built from your date of birth, the moment the curtain goes up on your life. It is often compared to the plot of a play: it gives a broad outline of the opportunities, challenges and lessons you will meet along the way.
It is the most important number in a numerology chart. Every other number, including the ones from your name, is linked to it and read in its light.
Think of your Life Path as the whole pie, and every other number in your chart as an ingredient.
Do it yourself
Three steps of simple addition, so you can check any result yourself.
Reduce your birth month, day and year separately, adding digits until one is left. Stop early at 11 or 22, the master numbers.
Add your month, day and year numbers together.
Reduce the total the same way, again stopping at 11 or 22. That is your Life Path number.
Worked example
August 23, 1990
Result
Life Path 5, The Free Spirit
Why reduce each part first?
It is the only way to find master numbers correctly. Here is May 29, 1948 worked both ways.
11
Reduce each part
5 + 11 + 22 = 38 → 11
2
Add whole numbers
5 + 29 + 1948 = 1982 → 20 → 2: the master number is missed

Back to the calculatorYour Life Path number is worked out from your full date of birth and is either a single digit from 1 to 9 or a master number, 11 or 22. It is the most important number in a numerology chart. It gives a broad outline of the opportunities, challenges and lessons you will meet in this lifetime.
Reduce your birth month, day and year to single digits one at a time, keeping 11 and 22. Add the three results, then reduce the total the same way. For August 23, 1990: 8 + 5 + 1 = 14, and 1 + 4 = 5, so the Life Path is 5.
Master numbers have more potential than other numbers. They are highly charged, hard to handle, and take time and maturity to integrate. 11 is the most intuitive of all numbers. 22 is the most powerful, often called the Master Builder. A master number is never reduced in your Life Path: an 11 stays 11 and a 22 stays 22. Some charts write them as 11/2 and 22/4 to show the number they build on, but the master number is the one you read. Some numerologists also count 33; this calculator keeps 11 and 22, as the reference book does.
Usually because of the method. Adding the whole numbers first misses master numbers. Born May 29, 1948: reducing each part gives 5 + 11 + 22 = 38, then 3 + 8 = 11, a master Life Path. Adding the whole numbers, 5 + 29 + 1948 = 1982, gives 20 and then 2. This calculator reduces each part first.
No. It comes from your date of birth, which never changes. Some numbers come from the name you use today, such as the Minor Expression number, and those can change. Your Life Path cannot.
Often, yes. The Life Path is sometimes called the Life Lesson or the Destiny, while some numerologists use "Destiny" for the Expression number from your full name instead. In Vedic (Indian) numerology, the destiny number from your birth date is called Bhagyank and is always reduced to 1 to 9.
Your Life Path never changes and describes your whole life. Your Personal Year changes every year and moves through a nine-year cycle, showing the theme of the current year. Your Personal Year for the year you were born matches your Life Path number.
